Course Registration Information

For Graduate Students:

If you are prevented from registering for a CS course on GWeb for Spring 2023, PLEASE FILL OUT the CS Spring 2023 Registration Issues Form to request CS Department assistance. You can fill out the form before registration opens, if you know you will not be allowed to register for a certain course.

Fill out the CS Spring 2023 Registration Issues form Instead of a RTF or RTF-EZ for all CSCI courses.

REGISTRATION for CS RESEARCH COURSES for Spring 2023 will be done differently than in semesters past. If you know you will need to register for a research course, please contact the faculty member who will supervise this research and make an agreement with them regarding which research course you should register for and how many credit hours of research you should take. Once you have an agreement with your faculty research supervisor fill out the CS Spring 2023 Registration Issues Form with the necessary course registration information specific to the spring 2023 semester, be sure to have the correct CRN and number of credit hours you need to be registered for. DO NOT FILL OUT AN RTF or SEAS RESEARCH COURSE REGISTRATION FORM.

Online registration opens November 10, 2022, on that date you will be able to register for non-research courses via GWeb. Please check https://registrar.gwu.edu/fall-spring-schedule with the GW Office of the Registrar for important dates, such as the Add/Drop deadline. You may also review the GW Office of the Registrar's policies on Withdrawals and Refunds.

When registering via GWeb, if you get a prerequisite error, check the list of Computer Science courses for Spring 2023 in the Bulletin to ensure that you have taken the course’s prerequisites. If you are missing a prerequisite, but you believe that your previous education or work experience qualifies you to override the prerequisite, please fill out the Registration Issues Form. Afterwards, email the instructor to request their approval on your request for a prerequisite override. Please cc: [email protected] on your email to the instructor.

The CS Department will follow up on your prerequisite override request with the instructor. If the instructor approves your prerequisite override, the CS Department will give you permission to register via GWeb. The CS Department will process your requests in the order in which they are received. You should receive a response for any registration issues from submission within three business days. Response times will vary depending on request volume.

FTC requirement for International Ph.D. Students:

If you are required to process a FTC for Spring 2023, please fill out a FTC form and forward it to the Department. The Department will draft your FTC letter and send both the FTC letter and the FTC form to your faculty advisor to sign. Once your faculty advisor emails back the signed letter and form to [email protected], the department staff send both the FTC letter and the FTC form to SEAS Graduate Services to get the Dean’s signature on the form. CS will then return the form and letter to you so that you can submit your FTC documents to ISO Gateway. You are welcome to email SEAS Graduate Services and Advising at [email protected] with any questions you may have regarding if you will need to go through the FTC process for the spring 2023 semester, based on your DegreeMAP.
