The Department of Computer Science at The George Washington University invites applications for any of the following positions: two tenure-track positions and two professor of practice positions.

 

Two Tenure-track Positions:

The two tenure-track positions are at the assistant or associate professor level, and they begin as early as Fall 2019.  We seek candidates who can augment or complement existing research strengths in machine learning, NLP, vision, graphics, systems, mobile networking and cybersecurity. New faculty will join a vibrant department housed in a new $275M building that encourages interdisciplinary efforts across science and engineering. Current research is supported by federal sources including NSF, NIH, DARPA, IARPA, DOE, and a variety of industrial sources.

Two Professor of Practice positions:

The professor of practice positions are available at the assistant/associate/full professor of the practice rank depending on the candidate's experience.

The first Professor of Practice opening, available as early as July 2019, may teach introductory programming for CS freshmen, courses throughout the undergraduate and graduate curriculum and provide leadership for an introductory CS course open to the entire University student body. Once familiar with program requirements, the Professor of the Practice will advise undergraduate computer science majors (approximately 4 hours per week, for around nine weeks in a semester) and will participate in lower level course curriculum development or become involved in advising and educational.

The second Professor of Practice opening, available as early as August 2019, will have as its primary focus on the development and delivery of a “CS for All” course and curriculum appropriate for students across the University.  Specific responsibilities include course design, lecturing, and managing teaching assistants and graders, as well as outreach to other departments to ensure that this course supports the integration of computing into the curriculum across many disciplines.  The position may also support other curricular, advising, and teaching needs within the Computer Science Department.
